Status Update: 1/11

Like my cowboy? I like him a great deal. Especially his lovely tattoos and shiny belt buckle. *innocent smile* I don't usually go for cowboys but I made an exception for this hunky specimen.

Anyways, it has been a while since I've done a status update. So here's what I've accomplished.

Since my last status update, I have received several new publishers. I have a flash story acceptance at Sex and Murder Magazine, three political poems accepted at aaduna Press, a flash story published into an anthology at Daily Flashes of Erotica (I will do a giveaway on Valentines day!) and a single-title short story publication at Sapphire Blue Publishing.

I've been a busy girl, eh? I haven't updated by "Publication Credits" in quite a while. *sigh* I'll get on it when I'm motivated enough to do it.

Here's what I'm working on right now:

A historical young adult novel with a paranormal twist. I'm devoting all of my time toward this at the moment. I'm really excited about this story. I can't wait to sit down and start writing it. I haven't written a novel since high school, so it'll be a long project that will keep me busy for a while.

I also have two novellas that are finished--still polishing and editing. One is my Cirque Du Soleil inspired story, the other is a dark fantasy story. I've got my eye on a few publishers, but I gotta wipe the dirt and grime off my stories first. Neither are an easy "sell," so I'm tweaking accordingly. When I get the confidence to submit again, I'll redirect my energies. I haven't looked at these novellas in months! A part of me is afraid they won't get published. It's pretty stupid because I got just two rejections and already I'm quitting, LOL! I'll re-submit when I stop moping around like a child. (At least I can recognize when I'm being childish!)

That's what I got cooking so far. When I have more news, I'll let you know! Thank you guys for supporting me. Without you guys, I wouldn't be able to do what I do!

Cheers from the Vegetarian Cannibal!

Status Update: 7/10

Good news! I've got two new contracts at two different publishers! Huzzah! "Hurricane and Panther" will be published at Sapphire Blue Publishing! (YAAAAY!) And a new flash I wrote called, "Mermaid Lips" will be published at Pill Hill Press. Both are erotic stories. I'm so excited to work with Sapphire Blue! As soon as the cover art comes back, I'll post more on that.

As some of you already know, Lame Goat Press is kaput, but my "Odd Orval" story will be published at another publishing press. The details are still being ironed out, but we'll see what happens. When I get my contract (if I get my contract) I'll let you know what's up and I'll post an excerpt. The whole process has been an absolute NIGHTMARE with this story...but that's how it goes with some small press publishers. *sigh* No use getting upset about it. It's not like it was a paid gig anyways.

I'm working on my novel (a new one--the other has been trunked!) and a "short" story at the moment.

My short story is an interracial (AW/WM) heterosexual erotic romance/comedy. You remember, the one inspired by my trip to the cirque du soleil? I tried to make it about sex but the characters kept nagging me they wanted to fall in love...so yes, ME, the romance genre HATER is currently writing a ROMANCE! *shudder* I HATE myself for doing this...but the fricking couple won't cooperate and just have sex!

What started out as a whang-bang-boom kinda story has now morphed into this monster of a project. It was SUPPOSED to be 7-9K. I wasn't SUPPOSED to get attached to my characters.

Uh uh. Nope. My characters wouldn't have it. They conspired against me, see? Look at their faces. They look smug, don't they?

They mucked it up with cheesy dialogue and "falling in love" scenes so now I'm guessing my "short story" will turn into a "novelette." I'm already over 9K words. Maybe 12-15K words when it is finished? That is, if they COOPERATE like good little characters! 12-15K is a tricky length to sell. Too long for a short story, too short for a novella. I could be digging myself into a hole. I will scream if I have to stretch it out to 20K.

It'll be a HEA erotic story after all. Which pisses me off because I said I would NEVER do it. My only saving grace is that my characters are weird. The plot is quirky. I wanna say it's like the movie "Amelie" in its "bizarreness." And I'm hoping it's funny (in a sick and twisted way it sort of is). I have no idea if this story will be published as it is my FIRST romance attempt. If I'm going to write a romance it better be a pretty fucking WEIRD romance. That way I can keep my tomboy goth card without feeling like a total sell-out. Hahaha!

Oy. Off to finish up my story. Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it.

Cirque du Soleil-Alegria

Oh. My. Goodness.

I went to see the Cirque du Soleil on Sunday and it was SUBLIME! For any of you who haven't seen it yet--go see it! It will blow your mind!

Here was my favorite part--the hula hoop contortionist!

The performers were so professional and poised. Even the clowns! The costumes are quite exquisite. The music is fantastic as well! Our "White Singer" was Malika Alaoui-Ismaili, not the Francesa Gagnon you hear in the clip. I prefer Malika. She belted out the songs and her voice sounded much more clear. Francesca's voice gets overpowered by the music.

*shrugs*

But what would I know! Francesca's version sold more records than any other troupe in the Cirque du Soleil.

It's a funny story how we ended up at the Cirque. I'm currently writing an erotic piece that takes place in a carnival. After watching many cirque du soleil videos on youtube for research, the evening news came on and announced the Cirque Du Soleil was showing in Frisco that weekend!

Talk about serendipity! I'm thinking it was karma! At any rate, I LOVED every second of it! And I got all the material needed for my next story!

Go and see it! They are very good! You won't be disappointed!
