Vampires Are Lame.

Perhaps I'm going to get a lot of flack for this. But I'm just going to come out and say it.

I boycott anything with vampires in it. Be it books. Movies. TV shows. Comics.

Whatever.

I don't write it. I don't read it. And frankly, I've had all I can stand with the entire "vampire subgenre." It wasn't interesting when Anne Rice did it. Wasn't interesting when Laurell K. Hamilton did it. And hasn't gotten any better with Stephanie Meyer's latest rendition.

If I have to hear one more thing about that goddamned Twilight book I will go insane! I might just have to kill someone...and eat them. I've been so good about my vegetarian diet...I'd hate to fall off the wagon now!

I hate vampires because they're BORING! They aren't scary, and the theme has been done a million times before! There's only so many variations of VAMPIRES you can do before you've seen it all!

Let's see. They turn into bats. They burn in the sunlight. They fetishize virgins...and on occasion...bite a few people.

Give me something different!

Is that so hard?

Are writers so brain-dead, so stunted in their creative development, that they are incapable of writing their own monsters?! As a horror writer, I want to weep! It's as if the entire horror genre has morphed into this teeny bopper cliche! Sparkling vampires don't cut it in my horror stories. In fact, anything that "sparkles" in direct sunlight shouldn't cut it anywhere.

Bring back the creatures of hell! Bring back the Lovecraftian creatures of old! Do away with the romantic subplots! Just give us the monsters, the carnage, and all the cheap thrills that made us stay up at night under the covers with flashlights!

GIVE US BACK THE HORROR GENRE!!!! And let the "un-dead" vampires stay dead.

For good.

Reading Erotica Can Improve Your Sex Life!

No, really! It can! And I'm going to tell you how!

For all my gay/lesbian couples reading out there, these tips apply to you guys too! Don't tune me out just because I prefaced this post with an image of a heterosexual couple! :D I'll get to you guys in a minute! I promise!

Now as some of you already know...I'm an erotic author. I specialize in multicultural bisexual erotica...meaning I write interracial f/f, m/f, and m/m situations. Sometimes I combine all of these elements together in the same story! But that's for another post...onto how erotica can improve your sex life!

HOW EROTICA HELPS MEN:

Guys, reading erotica scores you extra points. You benefit the most from reading it. Why? Because to women, erotica and romance novels are the equivalent to your porn. By using erotica as your unofficial Sex Manual, you can get into the minds (and hopefully, pants) of your lady without even trying! It's an easy gimme!

Women like erotica/romance novels because there's always something new and different. The guys are always sensitive and hunky, and he is usually in tune with the heroine's emotions and feelings (meaning, he knows where and when to touch and how hard). He can be a space pirate, a computer geek, a medieval sorcerer or even the guy next door! It really doesn't matter what he is or what he says, it's how he does it that makes it erotic and sexy! Learn how he does that and you will have the ladies lining up at your door!

Female authors dominate the romance/erotica genres (while bored, curious, or sex-deprived females make up their target audience) so as men, you benefit the most by applying these trends into your love life. How many women have you heard complain: "It's not fair! Men just aren't like that in the real world!" after coming back from a cheesy romance movie or putting down a romantic book?

Ha! Well, not anymore! You can be that man! Or at least fake being him in the bedroom!

Besides, reading erotica is an encyclopedia for sexual poses, scenarios, and activities. Surprise her! Try to incorporate some of your favorite scenes into your routine! The more creative you are, the better! Ladies want romance...so give it to her!

Want to score extra points?

Try writing your OWN erotica! Women are suckers for the written word! So try writing her a cheesy love letter or a naughty poem! Write an explicit story about the two of you if you're feeling brave enough! However, there's a difference between erotica and porn, so if you're unsure, please revisit my post about Erotica Vs. Pornography. You may think you're being sexy with: "I stuck my penis into your anal sphincter so we could fuck doggy style" but to impress a woman, less forceful language and a slow buildup to the main event works best! For gay men, the above would be just fine...although the word "sphincter" isn't very sexy, now is it?

HOW EROTICA HELPS WOMEN:

Alright, ladies. For those of you who already read erotica, this section isn't for you! I don't need to tell you what you already know! So I'm dedicating this section to the women out there who 1. think erotica is nasty or demeaning 2. have never read erotica or 3. don't know what erotica is.

So you think the above picture is too much, do you? Yes, then, I'm most certainly talking to you! I hand-selected him off the internet myself. Are you pleased? Offended?

For the women who think erotica is nasty...my first question is, do you like/enjoy sex or are you a sexual person? If the answers to these are no, then erotica most certainly isn't for you! Erotica-fans generally like or are interested in sex. If all sex is "nasty" to you, then of course erotica will turn you off too! Erotica celebrates sex! Erotica is a homage to sex! So...if you hate sex...reading erotica won't do you any bit of good, now will it?

My second question would be, have you ever read erotica? Most women who tell me, "Erotica is nasty" haven't even read it! This boggles my mind! Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but don't knock something you haven't tried! Like I said to the men, erotica is NOT pornography! And good erotica is never demeaning to women or any other population. If you read erotica that was demeaning, don't support that publisher by buying their filth! Most publishers don't publish that kind of crap but there are a few who do.

I, for one, NEVER write erotica that involves rape-fantasy (or capture-fatasy), torture, incest, racism, or derogatory depictions of any race, culture, or religion. If you want kosher erotica, find erotic authors who specialize in those areas before making your purchase.

Erotica is great because it empowers women! Erotica provides a safe outlet for women to take ownership of their sex, as well as an avenue to explore their sexual curiosities without shame or apology to the patriarchal society we live in! There's nothing WRONG with being a sexual woman! Unfortunately though, women have a long ways to go until we have the same social freedoms as men. If a woman chooses to sleep with a lot of men she is still viewed as a whore or a slut. But a man with same number of partners is hailed as a "stud."

Women are told conflicting messages in regards to their sexuality. Some examples:

1. "You have to be a size 2 to be attractive...but without a Double D chest, you aren't curvy enough."

2. "Submitting to a man's sexual desires is a sign of femininity...but if you should enjoy it or initiate it yourself, you are a whore or a slut!"

3. "Men are supposed to have lots of sex, but once a woman gives him what he wants she is "used goods" and no longer "pure" or "virginal."

4. "Men want women who are "ladies" in public but "freaks" in the bedroom."

5. "Women should push themselves in their careers, but haven't accomplished anything unless they've earned the coveted title of Mrs. or Mom."

6. "A woman is entitled to her body, but if a man asks for it or provides security/finances she is expected to forfeit her rights or risk being labeled a "prude," "unloving," or a "tease.""

7. "Women are supposed to wait until they are married...but are expected to "put out" on the third date or if a man has done something for her."

8. "Women are beautiful in all colors and sizes...until they hit 35. Then they become "old" "undesirable" and "unworthy." Women are only good for their looks, and once they're gone, they have nothing.

9. "Any woman who stands up for women's sexual rights must be "a flaming liberal," a lesbian, a feminist, or all three because there's no need to fight for women's rights in the 21st century!"

Erotica pushes past these unfair gender stereotypes. It tells women they can be just as sexually active as men and that enjoying sex is not only normal, but HEALTHY!
Ladies, you have that right! And don't let anyone tell you otherwise! It's your body, you can do whatever you want with it! Don't be ashamed of your sex. Take ownership of it. Empower yourself!

Aside from empowerment and personal freedom, erotica offers creativity and understanding for women and their bodies. You can communicate with your partner things you wish to try or use erotica as a way to enjoy your alone-time when your partner is away!

Erotic authors write erotica so our readers can indulge themselves in any way they see fit! It's safe, (you can't catch a STD from an erotic story) it's effective, and you don't even need a partner to enjoy it! Pamper yourself, ladies. You deserve it! Let your fantasies run freely!

FOR THE GLBT READERS:

I promised I would get to you guys! I'm a woman of my word!

Erotica is a wonderful thing for those in the GLBT community! Many many many publishers include m/m and f/f titles! For you guys, the world of erotica is like a candy store! Just close your eyes and pick one! I write more f/f than m/m (as male sexuality seems to be the "preferred" even in homosexual markets).

Erotica helps us in the GLBT community feel validated and appreciated. We have just as many sexual needs as the hetero-population, and publishers are beginning to see that! Also, because GLBT is still considered a taboo, it sells like crazy! It's a hot genre many erotic authors want to get in on. Like I said in the other sections, most markets only publish stories with favorable GLBT-themes (nothing mean or derogatory).

I'm in the movement for f/f markets (there are sooooooo few in comparison to m/m and m/f). I hope this post has inspired all of you to buy erotica! If not for yourself, do it for your partner! It'll improve your sex life AND boost your confidence and self-esteem!

I guarantee it!

Happy reading, everyone! And as always, feel free to leave comments!

Status Update: 3/10

Time for a status update. What the heck am I writing now? Do I have anything out for my fans to read?

Out NOW: Poem-"I Dream of Frost" at bareback magazine. Scroll down to the "POETRY" section on the first page. My pen name is TK Turner (duh!)

This poem was originally a gift to my boyfriend. I wrote it when I was 19, I think. I have another erotic poem coming out in April at Dark Gothic Resurrected. (Check out my links on the right)

The other piece I have out right now is an apocalyptic sci-fi story at Silverblade magazine called "She Fills the Sea." Here's a direct link to the story:

I wrote this story last fall. Take a look and please feel free to leave comments regarding anything I've written! I love feedback! (I received my very first "fan mail" with this story!)

Works In PROGRESS: I have three short stories in the works this March.

One is a horror story involving an angel and an anal probe. O_o I'm in the submitting process so when it gets accepted (if it gets accepted) I'll be sure to let you guys know. I'm shooting for a paperback anthology. E-zines are great and all, but I want something in PRINT!

The other story I'm working on is an erotic/comedy involving a bridesmaid and a contortionist. I'm still drafting this one--haven't written anything down yet. When I have a publisher for it, I'll post an excerpt.

The last story I have is a nonfiction essay on interracial dating in post-Obama America. This one is still in the submitting process. I'll post a link to it if it gets accepted.

Thanks for supporting me by reading my stuff! You guys are the best! And like always, leave a comment if you have one! :)

3/10: MEDIA OF THE MONTH!!!!!

OMG, it's time for another media of the month!!! I bet you waited all month for this post! (indulge my delusions of grandeur and just nod your head!)

February's media involved stupid commercials. This month I'm going to talk about something a bit more serious. So wipe the grin off your face! Put your thinking cap on. Don your military boots and activist tee!

What I'm about to talk about is pretty intense! And I'm going to need your help!

This month's theme?
ANIMAL ACTIVIST MOVIE!

I'm talking about The Cove! It's a beautiful (gut-wrenching) documentary about the dolphin slaughter taking place in Japan. They kill 23,000 dolphins a year over there. Why? Because only about a dozen of the dolphins they catch are deemed "suitable" for Sea World and other aquariums around the world. The rest are KILLED!

The Japanese don't even eat dolphin meat. So why the needless slaughter? This movie explores the ugly truth the Japanese whaling industry has been hiding for years. The dolphin meat is packaged under "other meats," or is falsely advertised in Japanese food markets. This means, many Japanese people are eating dolphin without even knowing it! If the truth came out, the whaling industry would shut down! But the Japanese make sure the media doesn't hear about it so they can continue with this multi-billion dollar scam!

Which brings me to mercury poisoning. The meat itself is toxic! Mercury can't be cooked out of the meat, so not only are they falsely advertising the meat, they are selling meat that is TOXIC for human consumption!

Due to the pollution in the oceans, mercury levels have been rising all over the globe. The higher up the food chain, the higher the mercury content is in the meat. That means all you sushi-lovers better watch out! If you've been eating a lot of tuna, swordfish, or other fish like that, get yourself checked for mercury poisoning RIGHT AWAY! Mercury is also found in numerous vaccines and medicines. This is not a joke or some lame "hippy hypothesis!" I'm not even going for a scare tactic here!

These are facts.

Now, as a vegetarian, I've known this for a while...but I was unaware to what extent the mercury level has risen over the years! It's quite scary! Mercury poisoning is believed to be one of the causes of the new Autism Epidemic. Thirty years ago, autism was all but unheard of. Now it's everywhere! A 2007 statistic states the rate is 1 out of every 150 children!!! And rising!

Like the tobacco industry, health warnings and anti-mercury legislation won't happen without involvement of everyday people, like you and me. We need to write to congress, picket, organize, and spread the word!

The Cove talks about dolphins, but the dolphins are just the tip of the iceberg of a HUGE problem no one wants to talk about.

We can't tackle global issues like mercury legislation without first dealing with the 23,000 dolphins slaughtered and packaged in Japan! We have to crawl before we can run! So how can you help?

For starters? Check out this websites and visit The Cove's blog! Go see the movie! Spread the word to your friends! People need to KNOW this is an issue!

Secondly? Stop supporting aquariums like Sea World! They feed into the overall problem! Whales and dolphins are sentient beings with the same, if not more, cognitive capabilities and intellect as humans! Sea World is INHUMANE and should not be supported!

Is the recent Sea World Death fiasco ringing any bells? Of course, my sympathies go to the families of the trainers who were killed. The incident is tragic. But the fact remains, the way Sea World captures and train these animals are crueler.

Whales rely on echolocation, meaning, their ears are very sensitive to sound. Throw them in a large stadium with millions of screaming fans everyday, and they go nuts! It stresses them out and agitates them! The rigorous training exhausts these animals AND they don't have enough room to swim or move around freely.

To put it into perspective, what if someone kidnapped you from your family then trapped you in a bathtub for the rest of your life? Then forced you to do tricks and endure deafening screaming and shouting for long periods of the day? Is it any wonder Tilikum went berserk the way he did? He's not the only whale at Sea World who has "flipped" out (as you saw in the video). Sea World will continue to use Tilikum in shows (despite the 3 trainers he's killed) because finding a whale that can be "trained" is extremely difficult (out of 23,000 only a dozen make the cut, remember?). He's worth BILLIONS of dollars, so I don't see them doing anything to keep the trainers more safe in the future.

So let's recap, as I've discussed several points.

1. Save the Dolphins/Whales by tackling "The Coves" of the world.

2. Learn about Mercury and its damaging effects to the brain (autism, Alzheimer's, etc.) Get tested for mercury poisoning if you can!

3. Boycott Sea World (if not for the animals, do it for the SAFETY of the trainers who work there!)

4. Get active, spread the word, and see the movie!

I hope I've inspired you to take action in this month's media of the month. I realize I might've disturbed you by including the graphic footage and news clips, but I only did it to inform you. Not to frighten or upset you.

Until next time, stay tuned for the next media of the month! (I promise to do a lighthearted one next time!)

Cirque du Soleil-Alegria

Oh. My. Goodness.

I went to see the Cirque du Soleil on Sunday and it was SUBLIME! For any of you who haven't seen it yet--go see it! It will blow your mind!

Here was my favorite part--the hula hoop contortionist!

The performers were so professional and poised. Even the clowns! The costumes are quite exquisite. The music is fantastic as well! Our "White Singer" was Malika Alaoui-Ismaili, not the Francesa Gagnon you hear in the clip. I prefer Malika. She belted out the songs and her voice sounded much more clear. Francesca's voice gets overpowered by the music.

*shrugs*

But what would I know! Francesca's version sold more records than any other troupe in the Cirque du Soleil.

It's a funny story how we ended up at the Cirque. I'm currently writing an erotic piece that takes place in a carnival. After watching many cirque du soleil videos on youtube for research, the evening news came on and announced the Cirque Du Soleil was showing in Frisco that weekend!

Talk about serendipity! I'm thinking it was karma! At any rate, I LOVED every second of it! And I got all the material needed for my next story!

Go and see it! They are very good! You won't be disappointed!

Erotica vs. Pornography

Erotica is NOT pornography! Erotica is NOT pornography! Erotica is NOT pornography! Erotica is NOT pornography! Erotica is NOT pornography! Erotica is NOT pornography!

Erotica is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT pornography!

Got it?

Few people understand this. And as an erotic author I get this question more times that I can count!

So what is the difference between erotica and pornography? Well, if I could be so bold, I'd like to sum it up with a picture. As they say, a picture is a thousand words...so allow me to demonstrate my point.

Erotica: has dirty words or graphic scenes, but the language is stylized and sensual. Like this photo here:

Now, this is a graphic picture, wouldn't you agree? Clearly, she's naked. Just as naked as the woman below her, but notice the difference here. This picture is an expression of something other than sex. We see her tits and pussy, but it is done in a stylized way and there's something deeper than just what we see on the outside. The lighting, the background, her pose, her hair--! Everything tells a story! It wasn't just slapped together, no, it was thought about and meticulously planned by the photographer... It's not what is shown, but how!

And she's quite lovely don't you think? She has a very mysterious expression. There's something for your imagination to work with.

Now observe the picture below and note the differences:

It appears to me that like the first picture, this photograph was done by a professional. Obviously she is posing, but look how she's posing. Is there anything left to your imagination in this photo? Not really. Not for me anyways.

Now, she's quite lovely too, but this picture screams PORN not art. This picture is about sex and nothing more. There's no mystery to this girl. Nothing deep or aesthetic. No character development. No dramatic arc. Just sex.

And that's NOT a bad thing! I'm not knocking porn or saying porn can't be artistic! But for the most part...porn directors aren't thinking about their "craft" when they do a shoot. They aren't even going for a coherent storyline.

And THERE'S the difference.

Erotica is like any other story...except it has sex in it. There's a beginning, middle, and end. There's a conflict and a resolution. It has heroines and heroes to drive the plot forward. Pornography is simply about sex. That's it. Usually there isn't a storyline, and if there is one, it doesn't make sense or it is poorly executed. Without the sex, the "story" could not stand on its own.

This isn't the case with erotica. Take away the sex and you get a sweet romance, or whatever sub-genre you were writing. Erotica is like any other genre except that it has sex in it! Sometimes...a lot of sex! But the fundamental plot is still there without all the sex scenes.
